Skateboarding workshop for children, teenagers, and beginners
Starting on Sunday, April 14, a series of free skateboarding workshops for children, teenagers, and beginners took place at ARKOPOLIS in Elefsina, offering a dynamic space for sports, learning, and community engagement. Organized by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture and Cultterra, in collaboration with Free Movement Skateboarding, the workshops ran on April 14 & 28, May 19 & 26, and June 2 & 9, from 17:00 to 19:00, both at ARKOPOLIS and the skatepark of Elefsina.
These open sessions introduced young participants to the fundamentals of skateboarding while encouraging exploration of the public space of ARKOPOLIS—the only skatepark in the Thriasio Plain. Led by an expert team of instructors, the workshops provided a safe and inclusive environment where kids and teens practiced their skills, gained confidence, and connected with peers through sport. All necessary skateboards and safety gear were available on-site, and no pre-registration was required.
Free Movement Skateboarding supports physical health, mental empowerment, and social inclusion among youth in Athens. Through its mobile skatepark and neighborhood-based lessons, it creates welcoming spaces for young people to discover skateboarding, express themselves freely, and build community.
